Liberia Airport (LIR) to Playas del Coco: The Easy 30-Minute Hop
By your hosts at Casa Coco Walk · Updated July 2026
One of Coco's superpowers: it's only about 25–35 minutes from Liberia International Airport (LIR) — no white-knuckle mountain roads, no 5-hour transfer. You can be off the plane and in the pool before your friends in Manuel Antonio have left the rental-car lot.
Your options
- Private shuttle / driver (easiest) — our team at Oceanside Properties arranges airport transfers for guests; your driver meets arrivals with a sign. Ask us when you book.
- Taxi — official orange airport taxis line up outside arrivals; agree the fare before you load bags.
- Rental car — all majors operate at LIR. The road to Coco (Ruta 21 → Ruta 151) is fully paved. You genuinely don't need a car for Coco itself — consider renting for just the days you'll do park trips.
- Shared shuttles — cheapest for solo travelers; slower since they drop other passengers.
Timing tips
- Direct flights land at LIR from many US and Canadian hubs; afternoon arrivals still reach Coco in daylight year-round.
- Immigration is fastest before the mid-day charter wave; have your return/onward proof handy.
- Grocery stop: ask your driver to swing by Auto Mercado on arrival — ten minutes and your fridge is stocked.
Do you need a 4x4?
Not for Coco. Town, beaches and our condo are all on paved roads. Rent a 4x4 only if your plans include rainy-season river-crossing adventures further afield.
